OUR Beach?

So many people have gone home for the start of the school year that Wellfleet already feels deserted after the incredible influx of folks on vacation all summer, non-residents, tourists, summer people. When I saw Sharyn Lindsay yesterday, she said, "Good to have our town back, isn't it?" We totally agree. Sven and I took a walk at LeCount yesterday. Over dinner, my husband said to me, "It was nice to walk on the beach when there weren't so many people. It's like OUR beach." I could only agree.

Do any of you readers, who live here, feel the same way?

It's not that I feel so possessive of the Town, it's just nice to be surrounded by people who somehow feel accountable to it and, as a result behave better. I realized the other day in Boston that I'd been seeing people in their worst light: demanding, unmindful. People behave better where they live. Glad to shrug off my misanthropy.
I'm in Eastham, but I feel the same. Coast Guard beach was wonderful today; there were people around, but the high intensity was gone. We had a mellow walk. What a beautiful day!
I would love to come and visit 'your' beach and 'your' town :)...I'm beginning to see Renton (where I live) as 'my' city...I think this is always a good thing because it means we take responsibility for the place we are living...and we seek to make it better than how we found it...and we protect it from destructive forces.

I don't live there, but we live in a tourist destination. We had a horrible season this year, unfortunately, due to flooding and then extreme heat. We're hoping for more people next year to come to our little paradise. I can imagine how you feel though, as we feel the same at the end of hunting season.
