Gifts from the Sea

When I had a cat, before having a husband who is allergic to cats, that cat would leave little presents on the doorstep for me: mice, once a ferret, various types of bird. Guests also leave small gifts behind sometimes, beautiful stones and shells that they have carried back from the beach and deposited on the window sill or mantelpiece. These objects come in all shapes and sizes. In shallow water, some stones appear irresistible. Often they have been tossed about in the waves for years. I particularly like the sparkly one. Check them out!

Oh, I love these! I always fill my pockets at the beach. I love how you've called them gifts from the sea - never thought of them that way

Oh, lovely found stones and shells! Most in my family are rock collectors - we have waaaaay too many, but so difficult to cull. I especially adore lined rocks, my daughter and granddaughter love heart-shaped rocks and rocks with quartz flecks. That true circle rock is a beauty. The endless provision of treasures by the eternal sea - always so lovely to behold.

Back from a day at the beach and happy to report that I too am a fan of gifts from the sea. My front porch is decorated with shells and rocks from ocean walks.

As a midwesterner, any time I've made it to the beach, I pick up as many rocks and shells as possible. Here in the Ozarks, we have lots of pretty rocks. We joke that they grow out of the ground here. I've taken many from the road and lined my garden with them.
Lovely. My son, especially, loves collecting these kind of special trinkets from nature.
I just went to the beach last weekend - probably, and sadly, the last of the warm beach days - and came back with a huge collection of shells and stones. They're sitting in a bowl that I'm looking at right now.
