View from the Hammock

Under the maple tree is the place to be during this weather if you cannot get to the beach, weather so hot that not even the slightest breeze rustles the leaves. I know many of you pulled up my blog today, hoping to see photos of yesterday’s Fourth of July parade, and I’m sorry to disappoint you. We heard the horns and sirens. We saw happy folks walking home with little American flags afterward. Unfortunately, I was not able to go because we had a cottage emergency: the toilet and bathtub were backed up. Of course, impossible to get a plumber, or even a septic system maintenance company to come take a look due to the holiday weekend. Sven labored with plunger, snake, and hose for three hours and finally resolved the situation. I suspect the elderly gents this weekend did not heed the sign in the bathroom, warning that Kleenex should not be flushed. This, too, is the life of an innkeeper …

Wow, what a gorgeous tree. You know, trees are one of the things I miss most living here in Dubai - we have plenty of palmtree, which a lot of people hanker after, but it's just not the same.
This summer we will be travelling to the Canadian West coast and we will search out some Redwoods - I cannot wait!! (Never mind the Rockies - give me trees...)

When Sven liked in the far north of Sweden, he came to really miss trees, as there were none. I can tell you we really appreciate the old maple with this heat. Its shade is so beneficial. Hope you have a great vacation in Canada!
what a bummer. looks like a nice view from the hammock.
My recent post Monday
I'm sorry you missed it, but am glad Sven could fix it. And that is a lovely view from the hammock!

Poor Sven. That sounds so stressful (that's the kind of emergency that makes James crazy and totally stressed out). I went to our July 4 parade but did not stay up for fireworks. A good thing I didn't since the baby woke up every 15 minutes most of the night. She had a wee fever.

In any case, I hope you are staying cool under the hammock!
