What's New On the Bookshelf?

Edith Pearlman has written an amazing collection of short stories, called Binocular Vision, published in January. Oh, the details! Edith is truly a master. Short story collections are ideal for a bed and breakfast because guests can dip in and out without feeling the compulsion to finish a book, or even pinch it to find out what happens, (not that our guests would ever do such a thing). I am reading Binocular Vision slowly, savoring it. If I have put the book on the bookshelf before reaching the end, the reason is that Edith Pearlman will be reading at the PEN New England Writers Series, April 7, next week. Upstairs on the Square, 5 pm for wine, 5:45 for the reading itself. I would go, were I in Cambridge. I had already fallen in love with this book when I realized I had met the writer, about 10 years ago, a cool lady, and all the more reason to promote her work.

My sister was involved with PEN when she lived in New York, and I remember her saying good things about it. I'll have to check out this book. I've heard of Edith Pearlman, but haven't read any of her works yet.

I like the idea of B&B's providing short story collections, especially for night-time reading. And if that short story collection revolves around the B&B's location - even better. I'll be sure to add this book to my reading list.

Great title. And a short story collection is the perfect thing for a B&B since there is rarely enough time to dig into a long novel. I'm curious about this book now and will add it to my list!

I would really like to read this collection of short stories, though I find the cover rather odd...

Short story collections are a rare find, aren't they? Thanks for pointing this one out!

These do sound like a good fit for a B&B. I don't know why but I just can't get in to short stories as much as a good novel.
