Ready for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day is a very American celebration. People give red roses, or chocolates, to that special person who makes life worth living. Here are five ideas for alternative presents:

1.) Dinner out, say at PB Boulangerie, which opens this week.
2.) A surprise getaway, say at an intimate B&B like Chez Sven.
3.) Jewelry?
4.) A piece of art. (Sven gave me a painting as an engagement present.)
5.) Oysters from Mac's Seafood.

What are you planning to give/hoping to receive?

Update: Did you know there's a movement to rename Valentine's Day Generosity Day? Now that I like. Check out the details here.

We don't buy V-Day gifts anymore. We get each other a card and have a nice dinner at home.
I guess because we have spent most of the time overseas- Valentines Day never was a 'big' thing for us- I think (as you mentioned) there are some meaningful gifts which can be enjoyed together- such as a nice getaway or a meal- much better than chocolates (which I definitely DO NOT need)- and roses (which my hubby says ends up dying anyways) :)...in a sense, we aren't very romantic and yet we are in love.

Date night at the Wellfleet Cinemas will do. As the last line of the great song (My Funny Valentine) puts it...."each day is Valentine's Day".
I'm not big on Valentine's Day. I'd rather have a spouse who is nice to me every day in real, rather than artificial, ways. ;o)

Let's keep it Valentine's day. The kids love it and young ones think it is a big thing.
Generosity Day???? Let's every day have generosity day - we need a lot more than one day a year. Nancy
I agree with Champion of My Heart...every day should be a special day between you and your spouse. Valentine's Day, as I told my 26-year-old (who is taking his girlfriend out for a special dinner) gets old after a while.
