Wellfleet Connections to Julia Child
Julie & Julia is playing at the Wellfleet movie theater again this week. I have heard many reports about how good Meryl Streep is in the film and cannot wait to see it. I know a non-resident on Slough Pond who actually lived across the street from Julia Child in Cambridge for many years and even remembers when Julia’s kitchen was dismantled for transportation to the Smithsonian.
I wonder what Julia would think of my new kitchen? At least, the Le Creuset dish is in obvious use! I started using Le Creuset when I lived outside Paris. In an amusing promotion, I Love Inns has pulled together information about Julia Child’s influence on innkeepers. A writer called me last week for an interview, since I had answered their questionnaire in what must have been considered a provocative way. I was happy to oblige. In fact, Julia Child did influence me greatly and the I Love Inns piece does a fantastic job of explaining why.

What a cool interview! MFK Fisher is probably my foodie inspiration--her stuff had fewer steps, and I'm easily overwhelmed by Julia's recipes. But I love her story.
I've heard it's a really good movie! I ran into a couple who were grinning ear to ear after going to it. We just need to find a babysitter. We haven't had a date night in a LONG time...
What a nice article and what a fun life you've lead. I would love to live abroad and experience another culture directly.
I had no idea they sent her kitchen to the Smithsonian. Wow! And my Le Creuset dish is it steady rotation in my kitchen as well. :)
Congratulations on the interview. You were brave to learn to cook with Julia's book. I found it a bit intimidating, and stuck to my Joy of Cooking--now on my third copy, as I wear them out.
Can't wait to see the film. I saw Julia talking at Disney World of all places!!
I just saw the movie this weekend! My company published the book by Julie Powell (the blogger). It was so great!! I'm sure you will love it since its all about cooking and also blogging!
Eileen, are you still here on vacation? If so, why don't you drop by sometime and say hello?
I'm hosting book club next month and we're reading this book. Care to suggest a VERY easy Julia recipe that a somewhat kitchen doofus like me might be able to make?
Hi, Alisa. How about stuffed mushrooms? Champignons farcis. I always thought this recipe was easy, tastes great, and really transforms the lowly mushroom. It's on page 9 of Julia's The French Chef. Oh, and Vera, this cookbook, based on her TV show, is much easier to follow than the two-volume set of Mastering the Art ....
Unfortunatly I've left. Probably won't be back up until 2010 :( Maybe I will stop by next year!
Interesting article, and I see why they wanted to include your ideas. Enjoyed learning about that historic inns site site, too, had not seen it before.
