In Which Irene Comes to Call

We have battened down the hatches. Bottles of water have been prepared. Flashlights are loaded. At 7:30, Wellfleet still has power, but the NECN weatherman warns of possible wind damage during the morning and early afternoon. I hope to get out after breakfast is served and take photos of the up-to- 25-foot swells. If I do not re-post details, it will mean no power ... (Note, I did not buy any of these plastic jugs. If your power in still on, please watch this short Safe Planet video about plastic pollution in our oceans.)

Rain started here in northern NH sometime in the night. Now it's just heavy rain, no wind. Hope the Cape will miss the worst.
Just got back from Newcomb Hollow and the waves were huge and winds strong. Some of the seagulls were gliding backwards. Forecast is for an inch or less of rain but high winds, which can cause power outages.

Thanks, Kathy. Have not gotten out myself yet. Glad to have this report.
Thinking of you up there - though its good to be prepared, I think the news has really over - hyped the storm and freaked out a lot of people. Hopefully it will have lost most if not all its hurricane force by the time it gets up to New England and the cool waters, and you'll just have a wet, windy day without much damage. Stay safe Sandy, looking forward to hearing all is well and the sun is back out. --Stan

Thanks, Stan. We just posted photos, heavy wind here now. Orleans has lost power. I'm shutting down the computer for the day.
Hope everything turned out well for you up there!
