Season Starts Slowly in Wellfleet ...

What with all the rain last month, the mosquitoes are out in force, so plan to bring organic bug stray, as none is available in town. Hatch’s is open, which makes us all rejoice. Wellfleetians love having the option of buying vegetables and fruit without the need to travel 20 miles down Route 6. But, I have had guests complain about the lack of shopping options in town. Yesterday Sven and I tried to go out to dinner at The Juice. It was closed. Open Thursday-Sunday read the sign on the door. It’s June, for God’s sake! If The Juice is closed, that tells me there are not many tourists around. Chez Sven has been full for at least a month now. What's your impression? Do you think the season is off to a slow start?

It makes it difficult for visitors if things remain closed- I know when we went to the Peninsula here in Washington & found things closed....we were like "uh oh-- not a good time to visit"-- It would seem like by the time June hit- things would open up!
Wow. It is June already ... somehow. Where we live, most schools got out this week, so I'm not sure how much families bug out for vacation right away. Some do, I'm sure, but I suspect others take time to get their summer sea legs first. I hope it picks up soon.

I'm on the other coast and we barely had a spring. And now it's June. But school isn't out until Friday, so we're not in summer va-ca mode here yet either.
