Why Do B&Bs Need Flower Gardens?

Part of the spring ritual here at Chez Sven is mulching the gardens. I love flowers, and we have extensive beds, developed over the years with lots of TLC. A bed & breakfast owner needs flowers, I say to myself, to gather in bunches and place on bedside tables in all the rooms. Fresh flowers are an extravagance people do not offer themselves on a regular basis, so their presence in a B&B room provokes a positive response. Flowers make guests feel special.

The mulch will keep in moisture during the hot days of summer. This year we chose a mixture with manure for soil nourishment. Since organic fertilizer went down prior to mulching, the plants are getting a double dose of fortification ...

In April, the garden provides daffodils, forsythia, and soon tulips! How about a trip out to Cape Cod for the upcoming long weekend? We still have availability, and the Corps of Army Engineers plans to stop repair on the Sagamore Bridge to facilitate access for the holiday ...

Oh my- this sounds sooo nice!! I love fresh flowers in a room- and as you said, I rarely have this around. It would be extra special to have them decorated each room.

How wonderful that you have an excuse to grow so many flowers! I hate cutting flowers because it reduces the number I can see outside around my house, but if I had tons, I wouldn't mind at all.
Wonderful. Fresh flowers in a room are a treat!
I look forward to seeing photos of the flower gardens when they are in full bloom later in the summer. I think it's wonderful to have flowers. That said, I'm not big on flowers myself. I like vegetables that can be eaten. We have flowering rosemary in our garden right now, which is beautiful and edible. Nasturiums are among my favorite flowers too, because they are pretty, edible, and good to plant around tomatoes.

I think the fact that you love to garden must come through to your guests as well, as it does in your post.
