It helps them learn, too, and perhaps they can help by discouraging others to use plastic.

It's thanks to you, Alexandra, that I read Fake Plastic Fish. That's one amazing blog.

I also want to say that people should try to SKIP using plastic produce bags Jennifer Margulishttp://mothering.com/jennifermargulis/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20448505.post-87325668782688354192010-02-13T15:21:05.642-05:002010-02-13T15:21:05.642-05:00Anonymous, I agree that the cashier is not at faul...Anonymous, I agree that the cashier is not at fault. I was amazed on a recent shopping trip, though, when the cashier put all of my frozen items into a plastic bag and then placed that into the canvas bag!!! I had to explain to her that I didn't want plastic under any circumstances....even if it meant that my frozen items wouldn't be as well protected. I use cloth bags and have for years but I still need to put 4 eggplant, a bunch of radishes and some scallions in something at the store. I recycle and reuse those plastic bags but still, most of my garbage that I can't recycle is plastic packaging.
Here, if you buy organic produce it comes wrapped in Sharyn Ekberghhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11987304898246173619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20448505.post-19351486650115187112010-02-12T09:54:05.741-05:002010-02-12T09:54:05.741-05:00Amen, Alisa. But I'm always amazed at the surprise I get when I tell the clerk at CVS or a similar place that I don't need a bag for the ONE item I just purchased. If it can be held in a hand or fit in a purse, I think it should be law that clerks don't offer the bagAlisa Bowmanhttp://www.projecthappilyeverafter.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20448505.post-25588265982095887992010-02-12T08:48:16.419-05:002010-02-12T08:48:16.419-05:00This is truly one of the easiest things we can all...This is truly one of the easiest things we can all do to help the earth - and of the greatest impact. I've been using cloth bags for over 20 years. I added up that we've saved well over 10,000 bags from hitting the landfills in that time. As you know, this is common practice in Europe. It's really distressing that much of America hasn't caught on to this.Kerri Fivecoat-Campbellhttp://www.livinglargeinourlittlehouse.comnoreply@blogger.com
